DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z January 7, 2007

Southwest U. S.:
A large area of dust/sand continues to drift southward over the Gulf of
California, Baja California and the Pacific.

South Florida:
An area of light smoke is moving north from fires burning in Palm Beach
and Hendry counties. The smoke is moving into the counties of Glades,
Okeechobee, Martin and St. Lucie and across Lake Okeechobee. The fires
are most likely agricultural.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
