DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY


South Carolina:
A fire near Awendaw in the Francis Marion Nat'l Forest has produced
moderate smoke that rapidly moved SE nearly 80km offshore.

Louisiana:
A fire SW of Pearlington,MS in St. Tammany Parish, LA produced moderate
smoke that moved due south across Lake Borgne and the Missippi River
delta into the Gulf of Mexico south of Empire, LA.

Texas:
Thin smoke from a fire near Morgan in Bosque county has moved due south
very slowly and is still over only S Bosque county.
A fire near Archer City in Archer county is moving due east and extends
to the Archer/Clay countyline.

California:
Multiple agricultural fires in the fields south of the Salton Sea
are producing short bursts of moderate smoke that area moving due west
extending across the southern portions of the Sea and across the deserts
of Imperial county to the lower slopes of the Coastal Mtns.

A fire near Whispering Pines in southern Lake county is producing a very
thin line of moderately dense smoke that is moving quickly to the north.
The plume is no wider than 5km and extends to the tri-county area of
Lake/Glenn and Mendocino.

A fire near North Bloomfield in N Nevada county is producing moderate
smoke that is moving due north to near Spanish Ranch in west-central
Plumas county.  Thin smoke from this fire is also moving east and
northeast along the spine of higher elevations of the Sierra Nevada.

A fire near Berry Creek in Butte county is producing thin to moderately
dense smoke that has moved north all day...and extends a far north as
the Siskiyou county line just south of Mt. Shasta.

Oregon:
A fire near Frenchglen in Harney county along the Donner und Blitzen
River NW of the Steens Mountain range is producing a moderate amount
of smoke that is expanding in all directions (excluding moving up the
slopes of the mtns. to the SE). The most dense smoke areas appear to be
following the river tributaries.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
