DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY


North Carolina:
A fire near Kellumtown on Camp LaJune produced an area of thin smoke
that has drifted NE and currently extends from Bogue and Shacklford
Banks out SE from Cape Lookout up to 70km.

Georgia:
Two fires near Batch in Richmond county and Dyes Crossroad in Burke have
produced smoke plumes that have melded into a larger area of thin smoke
that has moved NE into SC as far as Croft in Aiken county. The area is
about 25km wide (NW-SE) and 39km long (SW-NE).
Quite a few fires near Columbus (mainly south near Fort Benning) have
produced a large area of moderately dense smoke that is moving E and
extends as far east as Butler in Taylor county.
A fire near Gabbettville (SE of La Grange) in Troup county has produced
moderately dense smoke that has moved due east as far as Odessadale in
Meriwether county (or 34km from the source).
Multiple fires along the Chattahoochee River in the SW GA counties of
Early, Seminole, Miller and Decatur have produced a larger area of thin
to moderately dense smoke that has slowly drifted E to ENE covering
nearly all of SW GA west of US-27.
Other small fires along the GA/FL boarder are producing thin smoke that
is barely drifting away from their sources to the ENE.

Alabama:
A fire near Orion in Pike county near US-231 has produced slowly drifting
thin smoke towards the ENE and extends as far as Union Springs in central
Bullock county.
A fire west of the Coosa River south of the Lay Dam is producing moderate
to dense smoke that extends east to Alexander City in W Tallapoosa county.

Mississippi:
A fire near Webster in Winston county is producing thin smoke that is
moving NE. The plume is 10km wide and extends to near Mississippi State
in Oktibbeha county.
A fire near Frogtown in Scott county is producing thin smoke that is
movine NE. The plume is 12km wide and extends to Fairview in Neshoba
county.

Louisiana:
A fire near Flatwoods in Rapides parish has produced thin smoke that
is moving rapidly NNE.  The plume is about 9km wide and extends to near
Joyce in Winn parish.
A fire near Kisatchie and Peason along the Natchitoches and Sabine parish
line is producing a fan of thin smoke that expands from NNW to NNE of
the fire which is about 22km wide.
A fire near Chestnut in N Natchitoches parish is producing dense smoke
that is about 14km wide and first moves N then turns NE near Walsh in
Bienville parish and then extends as far as Vienna in Lincoln parish.

Oklahoma:
A fire near Hochatown in McCurtain county is producing a very thin line
(1-2km wide) of thin to moderate smoke that extends NE into Polk county
in AR.

California:
A few fires in the agricultural area south of the Salton Sea are
producing small puffs of thin smoke that are moving North over the entire
agricultural area.
A wildfire in the Los Padres Nat'l Forest (Sierra Madre Mtns) along
the San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbera county line produced a large
1-2 stream of moderate to dense smoke that has rapidly moved NNE over
the San Joaquin Valley to around Lanare along the Fresno/Kings county
line. The plume has been about 10km wide...but has begun to fade a bit
at the source region with only thin smoke being emitted attm.

Hawai'i:
A large wildfire in state land on Maui in the Polipoli State Park just
SW of Red Hill has produced moderately dense to dense smoke all day. Due
to island flows, the smoke has remained moving SW from the fire into
the Kealaikahiki Channel and has covered Kahoolawe most of the day. The
smoke extends due west from the Channel more than 175km (or due south
from Barbers Pt. on O'ahu).
