THROUGH 0215Z January 28, 2007

Hawaii:
A large wildfire on the island of Maui near the town of Keokea (Polipoli
State Park) is producing a moderate to thick plume of smoke moving
southeast across the island and into the Pacific. The plume extends
225-250 km from the source. A light plume of smoke also from the fire
extends east about 150-160 km.

the northern edge of Curry county.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
