DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1745Z February 21, 2007

Florida:
Small thin areas of smoke from fires in Charlotte and Glades Counties
of southern Florida were detected moving eastward across these counties
and over Lake Okeechobee. Other small smoke plumes may also be present
in areas to the south and east of Lake Okeechobee, but are partially
obscured by the cumulus field which has formed there. A developing smoke
plume was also noted moving to the east-northeast from a fire along the
Polk/Osceola County border of central Florida.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
