DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0230Z February 24, 2007

Lower Mississippi Valley(Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi):
More than 10 fires in this area are producing thin to moderately dense
plumes of smoke that are moving to the north. Two fires in Jackson and
Perry counties in souther Mississippi are producing very significant
smoke plumes extending about 100 miles north from west of central Jackson
county. In addition, two fires in western border of Johnson county and
northwestern corner of Montgomery county are producing moderately dense
plumes of northerly smoke.

Southeastern US(Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Carolinas):
A lot of smoke plumes are emitting in this area, but only two fires
in Florida Panhandle are producing significant smoke plumes which has
covered almost all the panhandle areas extending from east of Panama City.

Cuba:
A lot of fires in Cuba are producing thin plumes of smoke that are moving
to the south.

Grand Bahama Island:
Two fires in Grand Bahama Island are producing thin plumes of smoke that
are moving southeastward.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
