DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0140Z March 1, 2007

Southeastern US(South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida):
A lot of fires in this area are producing mainly thin plumes of smoke
except two fires in northern Jones county of central Georgia and southern
Charlton county of southern Georgia producing moderately dense to locally
dense plumes of smoke. The smoke plume in Jones county is extending
about 55 miles norht of the firepoint and the smoke plume in Charlton
county is extending about 70 miles northwest of the firepoint.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
