DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0115Z March 18, 2007

Oregon:
A cluster of fires along the southwest coast of Oregon are producing
moderately dense to dense smoke that is moving north along the coast
and slightly to the east.

Kansas:
A significant amount of fires in Kansas are producing light smoke that
is moving to the south southwest.  Most were only two hour plumes of
light smoke.

Oklahoma/Texas:
In southeast Oklahoma and northeast Texas there are a few fires producing
dense smoke that is moving to the northeast.  The most significant fires
are found in Le Flore county, Oklahoma and Fannin county, Texas.

In central Texas there are also several smaller fires that are producing
light smoke that is moving to the northeast.

Mississippi/Alabama:
Throughout eastern Mississippi and southern Alabama there are quite a
few fires that are producing light smoke but have lengthy smoke plumes
moving to the south.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
