DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0115Z March 27, 2007

Numerous fires are burning across the southeast, but only a couple are
producing significant smoke. Although cloud cover across this region
of the country is obscuring other smoke producing fires.

Florida:
A fire in Polk county burning since mid day is producing a narrow plume
of light smoke extending 130-140 km from the source. The smoke stretches
into Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.
In Dixie county smoke is stretching across the Gulf of Mexico and into
Franklin county which is about 150 km from the source of the fire.
The fire is emitting light to moderate smoke and has been burning since
early afternoon.

Montana:
Some light smoke is being produced from fires in the counties of Lewis and
Clark, Chouteau and Prairie. Most smoke is staying within county borders.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
