DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0130Z March 31, 2007

Southern California:
A fire in Los Angles county (Hollywood Hills/Dark Canyon) produced an
area of light to moderate smoke moving southwest into western parts of
Orange county and into the Pacific. The fire was contained around 4:00
p.m. with a few flare ups continuing. The fire grew at one point to
150 acres and caused traffic problems along the 101 freeway.

Southern Florida:
A fire in Palm Beach county is producing a light plume of smoke (possibly
moderate smoke) moving west into Hendry county. Cloud cover across
southern Florida made it difficult to see the full extent of the smoke.

Montana:
Two fires in Teton county are emitting light plumes of smoke moving west.
The smoke is staying within county borders at the present time.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
