DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0215Z April 8, 2007


Florida:
A fire just west of Lake Okeechobee is producing moderately dense smoke
that is moving east across the lake.

Two fires along the south side of the panhandle were producing light
smoke early in the day that was moving south out over the Gulf of Mexico,
later in the day the smoke began to shift in a southeast to east direction
along Florida's gulf coast.

Georgia/South Carolina:
Several fires along the coast of Georgia and South Carolina are producig
light plumes of smoke that are moving to the east out over the Atlantic
Ocean.

Kansas/Oklahoma:
Tons of fires throughout eastern Kansas, southern Kansas and northern
Oklahoma are producing light puffs of smoke that are moving either to
the south or southeast.  The most significant bulk of fires are found
on Kansas's eastern, central border.

Washington:
In southeast Washington there are multiple fires producing light plumes
of smoke that are moving to the east.

Idaho:
In Idaho county of central Idaho there is a large fire that is producing
moderately dense to dense smoke that was initially moving to the north
but since has shifted to the east.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
