DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0230Z April 18, 2007

Georgia/Florida/Bahamas:
Two very large brush fires in northern Ware county are producing very
dense smoke that is moving towards the SE across southeast Georgia and
northeast Florida (Jacksonville, FL) extending to the northern sections
of Seminole county.  Moderate to thin smoke from these large brush fires
continue to move SE across the northern sections of the western/central
Bahamas and moving into the eastern sections.  The  smoke was moving more
SSE to SE earlier in the day with light to moderate smoke affecting the
eastern counties of Florida and moving into central and eastern regions
of Cuba and even farther south.

Currently thick smoke covers the counties of Charlton, Brantley, Camden,
and Glynn in Georgia and Nassau, Duval, St. John's, and  Flagler in
Florida.  Mostly moderate smoke covers the counties of Mario, Seminole,
Putnam, southern Flagler, Volusia, and Lake in Florida.  A mixture of
light to moderate smoke cover the counties of Indian River, Brevard,
St. Lucie, Martin, Palm Beach, Broward, Monroe and Miami-Dade counties
in Florida.

The smoke offshore in the Bahamas/Cuba is bound by 30.5N80W to 28N75W
to 21N77W to 22N82W to 25N80W.

Alabama/Georgia
A fire in Cleburne county (Alabama) is emitting a moderate plume of
smoke moving southeast into Chambers and Randolph counties Alabama.
In Georgia the smoke is affecting Heard, Troupe and Harris counties.
A fire in the southeast corner of Meriwether is producing a moderate
plume of smoke into the counties of Talbot, Upson, Taylor, Crawford,
Macon and Peach counties Georgia.
A fire on the border of Liberty and Byran county Georgia is emitting
a light plume of smoke moving southeast into Jasper and Chattahoochee
counties Georgia.

Upper Mississippi Valley
In Minnesota a fire in Beltrami county is emitting a moderate plume
of smoke moving southwest into Red Lake and Pennington counties.
In Sherburne county a light to moderately dense plume of smoke is moving
west into Stearns, Wright, Meeker, McLeod with light smoke extending
into Renville county.
A small fire in Clay county (Minnesota) is producing a light plume of
smoke moving southwest into Cass county North Dakota.
In Michigan a fire in Burnett county is emitting a moderately dense
plume of smoke pushing southwest into Isanti, Chisago and Anoke counties
in Minnesota.
Additional fire producing light plumes of smoke are burning in the
counties of Juneau, Monroe and Marquette.  These plumes are moving south
to southwest in direction.

Northern Plains:
A fire in Griggs county is emitting a light plume of smoke southeast into
Steele, Cass and Barnes counties.  In Dickey county a moderate plume of
smoke is moving west into McIntosh and Logan counties.  These fires are
in North Dakota.
In South Dakota a fire in Brown County is emitting a light plume of
smoke moving west into McPherson county and extreme southern section
of North Dakota.  In Hand county a moderately dense plume of smoke is
moving west into Hyde, Humes and Dewey counties.

Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.

A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.

Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
