DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1645Z April 18, 2007

Georgia/Florida/Bahamas (offshore):
Two very large brush fires in northern Ware county have produced dense
smoke that has moved offshore of the US and is a few kilometers NE of
Abaco Island. However, high level clouds have moved in to the GA/FL area
making smoke detection difficult. Currently the dense smoke extends from
the western tip of Cape Canaveral along 29N81W to 29N79W to 27.5N74W
to 28N73.5W to 30.5N78.5W to 30N80W. Two areas of thinner but still
moderately dense smoke extend off the main dense plume. The first extends
north to northeast of the dense area bound by 30.5N78.5W to 31N77W to
31N74.5W to 29.5N75.7W. The second area extends south from the main dense
plume bound by 28.5N76W to 27N76W 25N74W to 26N76W to 27N77W to 29N78W.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
