DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z April 21, 2007

Southeast:
The enormous fire in Ware County, Georgia, continues to produce massive
amounts of very dense smoke that is fanning out to the south. It is
covering nearly all of Florida, the Bahamas, and is circulating through
the Gulf of Mexico.

Kentucky:
A fire in McCreary county of southern Kentucky is producing moderately
dense to dense smoke that is moving to the south crossing the border
into northeastern Tennessee.

Lower Mississippi Valley:
In Hale County, of western Alabama, a fire is producing dense smoke that
is moving to the southwest and nearly reaching the Alabama/Mississippi
border.

There are several fires burning throughout Mississippi that are creating
light to dense smoke. The largest of them is located in Jones county,
where dense smoke is being produced and is moving to the southwest.

In western Louisiana and eastern Texas there are a few fires producing
light plumes of smoke that are extending pretty far to the northwest.

Kansas:
The massive amounts of agricultural fires throughout southeastern Kansas
continue to produce light puffs of smoke that are moving to the north,
but dissipate relatively quick.

Wisconsin:
Multiple fires throughout the central portion of Wisconsin are producing
light to moderately dense smoke that is moving in a northern direction.

Minnesota:
On the Manitoba/Minnesota border there are several fires producing
moderately dense smoke that is moving to the north and reaching to the
central portions of Manitoba.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
