DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1615Z April 22, 2007

Southeast and Gulf of Mexico:

Thick smoke from the Ware county fire extends about 35 nmi to the
west. Thin smoke from this fire covers the southwestern 2/3rd  of
Georgia and the southern ½ of Alalbama, the Florida peninsula and
the northeastern Gulf of Mexico.  Thin smoke from fires on the Yucatan
Peninsula extend as far north as 25N in the western Gulf of Mexico mainly
between 90 and 95W.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
