DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0150Z April 26, 2007

Georgia/South Carolina:
Evening visible satellite imagery showed an elongated swath of thin
to moderately dense and even locally dense smoke (closer to the fire)
extending to the northeast into southern South Carolina from the ongoing
fire in Ware County of southeastern Georgia. More thin smoke attributed
to this fire was detected off the coast of Georgia, South Carolina,
and also south coast of North Carolina. This smoke, which is now moving
to the northeast, appears to have originated from the fire yesterday
and today when westerly winds were blowing the smoke to the east and
offshore. Another fire in central Berkeley county of South Carolina
is producing a thin to moderately dense plume of smoke that is moving
northeasterly along the Willamsburg-Georgetown county border into central
Horry county.

Minnesota and southeastern Manitoba of Canada:
A fire near US-Canada border in northeastern Kittson county of northern
Minnesota is producing a moderately dense to locally dense plume of smoke
that is fanning out to the east and covered northeastern Kittson, northern
Roseau counties, and southeastern corner of Manitoba in Canada. Another
fire in northern Roseau county is producing a thin plume of smoke that
is moving northerly into southern Manitoba of Canada.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
