DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z May 01, 2007

Georgia/Florida:
The wildfire in Atkinson county of southern Georgia continues to produce
larget amounts of very dense smoke that was moving north over night,
but is not moving to the east, covering most of southeast Georgia.

Residual smoke from the Georgia fires can be seen in the eastern Gulf,
just north of the Bahama Islands and moving throughout Florida.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
