THROUGH 1432Z May 02, 2007

Georgia/Florida:
The wildfires in southern Georgia are producing a large plume of
smoke that extends to the southeast into the northeast corner of
Florida. Previously generated smoke from this fire covers most of the
coastal plain of Georgia along with some light smoke extending up into
the coastal region of South Carolina. Some thin smoke covers north
central Flordia.
North Carolina:
A new fire in northwest North Carolina near the Burke/McDowell county
border is producing a narrow plume of smoke to the southeast and then
eastward across the state.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
