DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z May 21, 2007

Southwest:
The wildfires spread across Ware and Charlton counties Georgia
are producing a smaller area of locally dense smoke than yesterday
morning. The residual smoke stretches NE up into Marion county South
Carolina, and to the SW over Taylor county Florida and out into the Gulf
of Mexico. This area is also slightly fanned to the the NW as far out
as Worth county Georgia.
Moderately dense smoke from last night is spread over the Gulf but is
mainly concentrated south of Louisiana moving towards southern Texas.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
