DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0225Z June 1, 2007

Georgia:
The ongoing large fires in southeastern Georgia are still producing a
large area of moderately dense to locally dense plumes of smoke that
are moving to the west, then to the north and east. The most dense
portion of the smoke has covered ½ of Georgia. Another fire in western
Brian county of eastern Georgia is producing a moderately dense plume
of smoke that is moving to the west; however, due to weather clouds,
it's difficult to know how far it extends.

Utah:
A fire along Beaver-Iron county boundary in southern Utah is producing
puffs of moderately dense plumes of smoke that are moving southeastward
into Garfield county. A fire in Tooele county of northern Utah is
producing a large area of very thin smoke that is moving southeastward.

Northern California:
Several fires in Siskiyou, Tehama, and Glenn counties of northern
California are producing thin plumes of smoke.

Oregon:
A fire in Jefferson county is producing a moderately dense plume of smoke
that is moving southeastward into Crook and Deschutes counties. Two fires
in Lake and Grant counties are producing thin plumes of smoke that are
moving to the southeast.

Alberta of Canada:
A bunch of fires in northern Alberta east of Reindeer Lake are producing
locally very dense plumes of smoke that are moving eastward then northward
and has extended to the east and north about 100km of the fire. A bunch
of large fire in the northwest of Lake Athabasca is producing a large
area of locally very dense smoke that has extended northeastward about
650km to the fire.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
