DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0030Z June 3, 2007

NOTE: A firewall failure lead to a significant time when imagery
was unavailable (1943Z – 2337Z) to produce the HMS fire product!
This however does not affect this text product.

Gulf of Mexico/Central Gulf states:
Moderate to dense smoke from the GA fires was visible on the western
periphery of ex-TS Barry over the panhandle of FL, S AL, S MS and SE LA
as well as much of the NE GoM. The smoke plume is moving due S in the
northern portions of the plume and bends toward the SE the further south
(near 27N) in the plume as it wraps around the SW portions of Barry.
The smoke is bound by 24N87W to 25N84W to 27N86W to 28N85W to Panama
City, FL to 32N88W to McComb, MS to Baton Rouge, LA to 28N89W to 27N89W
to 26.5N89.5W to 24N87W.

Manitoba:
Moderately dense smoke from yesterday's output from the Northern Alberta
fires is moving due south on the eastern side of an upper level ridge
and currently covers most of central Manitoba from 55N to 51N between
the Lakes of Manitoba and Winnipeg.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
