DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0240Z June 5, 2007

Florida/Gulf of Mexico/Lower Mississippi Valley:
A large plume of thin smoke and haze extended from the southern Gulf of
Mexico across Florida to the the Atlantic Ocean. A plume of thin smoke
from agriculture fires extended from southern Arkansas to northern
Alabama.

Canada/Great Plains:
A large area of light to heavy smoke from fires in Canada stretched
southward through the Dakotas into the Southern Plains. Large fires in
northern British Columbia, Yukon Territory and southwestern Northwest
Territories caused moderate and heavy smoke that extended southward to
SW Saskatchewan. Heavy smoke fanned out to the south and southeast from
fires in NE Alberta. Narrow plumes of light and moderately dense smoke
drifted southward from a cluster of fires in NW Saskatchewan.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
