DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z June 10, 2007

Canada:
A bunch of big fires in south of Fort Norman in Yucon, Canada west of
Great Bear Lake are producing moderately dense to locally dense plumes
of smoke that are moving to the northwest.

Numerous fires in northern Alberta west of Lake Athabasca are
producing locally very dense plumes of smoke that are fanning out to
the northwest. Some fires in central Alberta are producing moderately
dense to locally dense plumes of smoke that are also moving northwest.

Two bunches of fires in northern Saskatchewan southwest of Reindeer
Lake are producing locally very dense plumes of smoke that are moving
southeast.

North Carolina:
A fire along Burke-MC Dowell county border is producing a thin to
moderately dense plume of smoke that is moving southeasterly almost to
the Carolinas state boundary.

Florida:
A fire in northwestern Wakulla county is producing a thin to moderately
dense plume of smoke that is moving southerly into the Gulf of Mexico.

Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi:
Lots of fires along Mississippi river within Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas
and Mississippi are producing mostly thin plumes of smoke that are mainly
moving to the southeast.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
