DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1505Z June 10, 2007

Canada:
Fires in northern Alberta produced moderate and heavy smoke that drifted
northward between the Great Slave Lake and Lake Athabasca. Fires in
northern Saskatchewan southwest of Reindeer Lake caused a plume of
moderate and heavy smoke that stretched to the southeast over northern
Manitoba. A band of thin smoke extends from southern Manitoba to central
Quebec.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
