DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1505Z June 14, 2007

Canada:
Fires in northern Alberta produced light and moderate smoke that swirled
west of Lake Claire and Lake Athabasca and moved northward to Great Slave
Lake. Thin smoke from the fires in Saskatchewan and Alberta moved to the
east and then northeast across Manitoba and Hudson Bay. Numerous fires
in southeastern Quebec produced moderate and heavy smoke that streamed
to the southwest.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
