DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1445Z June 15, 2007

Central United States:
An area of thin smoke and haze from the fires in the Lower Mississippi
Valley extends northward through Missouri/Iowa to southern Minnesota
and western Wisconsin.

Central Canada:
Light and moderately dense smoke from the fires north and west of Lake
Claire in Woods Buffalo National Park in NE Alberta drifted southward
over Alberta then eastward to southern Saskatchewan.

Quebec/Ontario:
Fires in east-central Quebec caused a plume of heavy smoke over southern
Quebec and southeast Ontario. Thinner smoke spread to Michigan and the
Lower Great Lakes.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
