THROUGH 1735Z July 2, 2007

Utah/Wyoming/Colorado/Central and Southern Plains/Northern Mexico:
The very large fire just north of Neola in Duchesne County of northeastern
Utah continues to emit large amounts of moderately dense smoke which
was moving towards the northwest earlier in the morning, but now is
moving towards the northeast into western Wyoming and northern Colorado.
Residual smoke from yesterday mixed in with clouds can be seen across
southwest Nebraska, western Kansas and eastern Colorado. The smoke
is moderately dense and continues to move in a south SW direction.
Some light smoke can be seen moving south across western Texas into
northern Mexico.

Arizona:
A fire in Greenlee county in southeast Arizona is producing a narrow plume
of moderately dense smoke moving south SE into Grant county New Mexico.

Alaska/Northern Canada/Saskatchewan:
Areas of moderately dense smoke mixed in with clouds can be seen spreading
east across parts of central/eastern Alaska, into northern Yukon,
and across Great Bear Lake and parts of western Northwest Territories.
Additional fires can be seen east of Great Slave Lake and these fire
are producing moderately dense to thick plumes of smoke moving northeast.
A fire in northern Saskatchewan south of Lake Athabasca is producing a
moderately dense to dense plume of smoke moving towards the northeast.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
