DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0215Z July 5, 2007

Utah:
A fire in Duchesne county (northeast Utah) in the Unita Mountains is
producing an area of moderately dense to dense smoke pushing south
SE into parts of eastern Duchesne and western Uintah county. A fire
in southeast Sanpete county in central Utah is producing an area of
moderately dense to dense smoke moving south into Sevier, Emery, Wayne and
Garfield counties. Residual smoke from these fires can be seen across
eastern Utah and western/central Colorado. This smoke is mostly light.
Clouds in/around these fires are blocking the full view of smoke.

Nevada/Utah:
A fire in eastern Lincoln county in southeast Nevada (north of Las Vegas
and in the Kershaw-Ryan State Park) is emitting an area of moderately
dense to dense smoke moving west. Smoke is also fanning towards
the south. Some smoke is pushing into the county of Washington in
southwest Utah.

Arizona/New Mexico:
Wildfires in the Apache National forest in east central Arizona and
the Gila National Forest in west central New Mexico continue to produce
moderately dense to dense smoke. The fire burning in Greenlee county
in eastern Arizona is producing an area of thick smoke moving west NW.
In Catron and Grant counties in western New Mexico these fires are
emitting an area of moderately dense to dense smoke pushing north to
northeast. An area of light to moderately dense residual smoke can be
seen across southeast Arizona and southwest New Mexico and pushing south
into northern Mexico. Thunderstorm in the region are blocking the full
view of smoke.

California:
A fire in Central Santa Barbara county is emitting moderately dense
to thick smoke north into the counties of San Luis Obispo and southern
Monterey.

Alaska:
Multiple wildfires burning across the central portion of the state are
producing anything from light to thick smoke. Most fire are emitting
smoke towards the west, but a couple towards the northwest to north.

Northwest Territories:
Wildfires southeast of Great Bear Lake are producing moderately dense
smoke moving north to northwest across the region. Wildfires southeast
and east of Great Slave Lake are emitting moderately dense to very dense
smoke plumes moving south with some smoke reaching northern Saskatchewan.

Manitoba:
Multiple fires in northern Manitoba and east of Reindeer Lake are
producing moderately dense to dense smoke pushing south across the
province. Some of these fires have been burning for days.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
