DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1445Z July 6, 2007

Remarkably clean skies cover the middle and eastern portions of the
United States, however,

Western U.S.:
Several small areas of smoke emanating from fires can be seen in northwest
Montana, where remnants of smoke from yesterday is now over northeast
Montana and southern Saskatchewan. Also, some small smoke areas can be
seen in eastern Idaho; northern California and northwest Nevada; and in
northwest Arizona where clouds are mixing with smoke. Some smoke from
an unknown source is over northeast Oregon and the panhandle of Idaho.

Alaska:
Smoke from fires in the interior of Alaska is being partially obscured
by cloudiness in the region.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
