DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0145Z July 21, 2007

Alaska:
Two fires in eastern and central Yukon-Koyukuk county were producing
light to isolated moderately dense smoke.

Intermountain Region:
Dense smoke covers much of central, south central and eastern Idaho
and stretches north northeast into southwest Montana. Complexes near
the Idaho-Nevada border and in central Idaho were the primary sources
of this smoke. Clouds precluded identification of smoke plumes in much
of Utah and Washington. Moderately dense residual smoke...discernible
only with low sun angles...extends well into Canada.

California:

Zaca fire in Santa Barbara County was producing a smoke plume that
extended from northeast to southwest into the Pacific.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
