THROUGH 0230Z July 23, 2007

California:
The wildfire in Santa Barbara county (Sierra Madre Mountains) continues
to produce only a small area of moderately dense smoke moving southwest
across the county. A small area of smoke is fanning northeast into
southern San Luis Obispo county.
In Tulare county a fire is emitting a light plume of smoke northeast
into parts of Inyo and Fresno counties.

Oregon/Idaho/Montana/Utah/Alberta/Saskatchewan/Manitoba/Ontario:
Wildfires burning across Hells Canyon National Park in Oregon/Idaho,

is coming from fires burning in northern Alberta, Saskatchewan and
northern/central Manitoba and parts of the northwest Territories.
A fire in southern Morrow county (Umatilla National Forest) is producing
a narrow plume of moderately dense smoke moving north into southeast
Washington State.

Northeast Alberta/Northern Saskatchewan/Northern/Central Manitoba.
Large smoke producing wildfires burning south of Great Slave Lake and
around Lake Athabasca, and north of Lake Winnipeg are producing an area

smoke is pushing east into Yukon.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
