DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1645Z July 25, 2007

Oregon:
Locally dense smoke on/from fires near the border of Morrow and Grant
counties is moving to the west.

The numerous fires across the US/Canada has left much of the central
US and Eastern Canada covered by smoke. The Southern Plains and Lower
Mississippi Valley has a large area of dense to moderately dense smoke
slowly moving NNE. The North and Central Plains are covered with dense
remnant smoke which continues to move north and into Canada. This area
moves into Manitoba where it meets up with a front carrying it across
the Hudson Bay and into Ontario and Quebec. Very dense smoke can be seen
moving into the Gulf of St. Lawrence where it is currently covering
southern Quebec and New Brunswick. Fires in Northern Saskatchewan
and Manitoba are producing locally dense smoke plumes moving to the
east. Upper level remnant smoke from this area is also combining with
the smoke from the US where its moving into eastern Canada.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
