DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1530Z UTC August 20, 2007


Nevada/Arizona/Utah/New Mexico/Colorado:
The residual smoke from the large fires in Santa Barbara county of
southern California are now moderately dense to locally dense and has
covered a horizontal area along the Utah-Arizona state border from
southern Nevada into northwestern New Mexico and southwestern Colorado.

Idaho/Montana/Dakotas/Alberta/Saskatchewan/Manitoba:
Numerous persistent fires in Idaho and Montana are still burning and
producing smoke which has covered has covered probably Idaho, Montana,
southern Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Dakotas. Due to weather clouds,
the exact range of the smoke cannot be told.

The Atlantic:
The residual smoke from northwestern US fires are still moderately dense,
but almost all of it has been pushed to the Atlantic until this morning.

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
