DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1530Z August 30, 2007

Idaho/Montana:
Numerous fires in central Idaho, northwestern Wyoming and western Montana
produced moderately dense to very dense smoke that extended eastward
across central Montana and northern Wyoming.

Northern Plains/Midwest/Southeast:
Residual light with isolated moderately dense smoke from the above
mentioned fires extended from the northern Plains southeastward into
the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys. Haze, likely containing some additional
residual smoke was moving south along the Eastern Seaboard from North
Carolina to Florida.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
