DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1612Z September 15, 2007

Idaho/Montana/Washington/Orgon/South Dakota:
The residual smoke with thin to moderately dense plumes from the fires
in Washington, Oregon, central Idaho, and western Montana has covered a
broad area including southern half of Washington, northern Oregon, central
and northern Idaho, southern half of Montana, and central South Dakota.

California/Nevada:
A significant fire in southwestern San Bernardino County of southern
California was responsible for a very long and somewhat narrow plume
of moderately dense to dense smoke which moved to the northeast into
southern Nevada, across Las Vegas into southern Lincoln county of Nevada.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
