DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0130Z September 20, 2007


Alaska:
The fires in far north central Alaska are still burning and producing
locally very dense plumes of smoke, that in the south are moving easterly
then northwesterly and that in the north are moving north northwesterly.

Washington and Idaho:
The fires in central Idaho still burning, but the cloud covered most of
the areas; however, a area of thin smoke can be seen from the central
of Washington-Idaho boudary all the way south to the ID-WA-OR three
states' border.

Arizona:
Several fires in central, southern, and southeastern of Coconino county
and southern Apache county are producing thin to moderately dense and
very narrow plumes of smoke that are moving north northeastward and are
reaching southern Utah.

Utah:
A fire in Carbon-Emery-Sanpete three counties' intersection is producing
a locally dense plume of smoke that is moving northerly across Utah and
Wasatch into northern Duchesne county.

Wyoming:
A fire in southern Carbon county is producing a moderately dense plume
of smoke that is moving northerly into northern Carbon county.

Manitoba and Minnesota:
Many fires in soutern Manitoba south of Lake Winnipeg and northern
Minnesota are producing thin to moderately dense plumes of smoke that
are moving southerly and influencing locally.

Louisiana/Arkansas/Mississippi/Alabama:
Many fires in this area are producin thin plumes of smoke that are moving
southwesterly and influencing locally.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
