DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z OCTOBER 08, 2007

US/Canada:
No significant smoke was seen today due mostly to cloud cover. Although
there was some minor smoke producing fires seen across the US/Canada.

Northern California:
Multiple fires are burning across the counties of Glenn, Butte, Sutter,
Colusa, Plumas, Nevada, Yuba, Humboldt, Shasta and Siskiyou with some
of these fires producing light to moderately dense smoke. Most smoke
is moving in a north NW direction with the exception in Humboldt county
where the smoke is moving south SE.
Arizona: A fire in the county of Coconino is producing a light plume of
smoke that is staying within county borders.
New Brunswick Canada: A fire in southern New Brunswick just west of the
town of McAdam and north of the county of Washington in northern Maine
is producing a light plume of smoke moving towards the east.
Lower/Middle Mississippi Valley: Multiple fires are burning across this
region, but due to cloud cover smoke is not seen in satellite imagery.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
