DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1630Z OCTOBER 16, 2007

Arizona:
A small faint plume of smoke can be seen drifting north from and area
near Forest Lakes along the Coconino Navajo county boarder.

Elsewhere across the country- no smoke was seen, most likely due to fog or
clouds that cover much of the Gulf States north through the Mississippi
Valley to the Dakotas and Great Lakes States and clouds that cover the
Pacific Northwest.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
