DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0120Z OCTOBER 17, 2007

Arizona:
A small faint plume of smoke was seen drifting north from and area near
Forest Lakes along the Coconino Navajo county boarder this afternoon.

Saskatchewan:
Two fires in eastern Saskatchewan were producing thin plumes of smoke
that were moving northward. However, due to clouds no smoke can be seen
in satellite imagery this evening.

Texas:
A fire in Texas Panhandle was producing a thin plume of smoke that was
moving northeasterly this afternoon.

Although a large amount of fires have shown in satellite imagery today,
no significant area of smoke are seen this evening due to large areas
of clouds.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
