DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0115Z OCTOBER 28, 2007

Southern California Fires:
The fires are still burning this evening; however, the incoming cloudds
covered the fire areas, so no smoke can be observed in satellite imagery.

Oregon:
A fire in southern Jackson county of Oregon near OR-CA state boundary
is producing a moderately dense to locally dense plume of smoke that
is moving mainly northward to northern Jackson county and central of
western Klamath county of Oregon. A lot of fires in western Oregon,
including Polk, Lincoln, Douglas, Coos, Linn, Benton, and Clackamas
counties are producing thin plumes of smoke that are either moving
northerly or westterly.

Texas and Louisiana:
A bunch of fires along the Gulf of Mexico coast in Texas and Louisiana
are producing thin plumes of smoke that are moving southwestward into the
Gulf. One of these fires in southeastern Chambers county is producing
a moderately dense to locally dense plume of smoke that is also moving
southwesterly into the Gulf.

Manitoba:
A fire in southern Manitoba is producing a puff of thin smoke that is
mcong eastward.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
