DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z November 02, 2007

South Central/Southeast:
A region of haze was noted this morning in GOES-West visible imagery
extending from eastern Texas across Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi
to possibly as far east as Alabama. This region of haze may contain
some remnant smoke from the numerous fires burning recently during
past several days across the southern and southeastern portion of the
country. Currently, scattered fires are beginning to appear in satellite
imagery across this region with a couple of developing smoke plumes also
visible, particulary in Coosa County of central Alabama.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
