DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0030Z November 03, 2007

Lower Mississippi Valley/Southeast:
A large number of ag fires have resulted in generally isolated areas of
smoke that were moving towards the south. The most significant fires
were found in Santa Rosa County, Florida, generating a plume that extended
south into the Gulf of Mexico, and Monroe County, AL.

California:
Moderate smoke extended into the Pacific Ocean from the Santiago fire
located in eastern Orange County. A moderate plume of smoke also extended
to the west of a fire in Mono County.

Oregon:
Smoke extended 140 km to the southwest of a fire in Curry County.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
