DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0030Z November 04, 2007

Southeast/Lower Mississippi Valley:
Numerous ag fires generated isolated smoke plumes which generally moved to
the south to southeast. Most notable smoke plumes emanated from blazes
in Iberia and Vermilion counties in Louisiana and extended approximately
125 km to the south.

California/Oregon:
Moderately dense smoke extended 200 km to the northwest of a fire in
Mono County while similarly dense smoke reached 125 km southwest of a
blaze in Lane County Oregon.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
