DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0045Z November 05, 2007

Gulf Coast States:

Although numerous ag fires were burning across the Southeast and Lower
Mississippi Valley, the only fires that were producing significant smoke
plumes--extending south into the Gulf—all lay along the coast and
effected the following areas: Apalachicola National Forest in Florida,
Marsh Island in Louisiana, and Jackson County in Mississippi.

Arizona:

A thin but moderately dense plume of smoke extended 115 km to the
northeast of a blaze on or very close to the Mocollon Rim in the vicinity
of Kohls Ranch along the Coconino and Gila county border.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
