DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0230Z November 09, 2007

Western United States:
Scattered fires in southern Oregon and northern California produced
narrow plumes of light and moderate smoke that drifted mostly to the
north and northeast.

Southeastern United States:
Numerous agricultural burns in the Southeast caused light and moderate
smoke plumes from northern Florida and Georgia to the Lower Mississippi
Valley. The largest plumes along the Coast of northern Florida drifted
southward to the Gulf of Mexico.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
