DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0000Z November 28, 2007

Texas:
A fire near the coastal portion of southeastern Jefferson County
in extreme southeastern Texas produced a significant moderately
dense to dense smoke plume which fanned out as it spread to the
west-southwest. The thinner leading edge of the smoke plume appeared
to move across the southern part of the Houston metro area during the
very late afternoon. Farther to the southwest, fires in Refugio and near
the Aransas-Calhoun county border were also emitting moderately dense
to locally dense smoke plumes which moved to the west-southwest. These
smoke plumes were somewhat smaller than the Jefferson County plume.

California:
A cluster of fires in the Sacramento Valley of north central California
were producing rather short lived puffs of smoke which moved rapidly to
the south in the general direction of Sacramento.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
