DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0230Z December 05, 2007

GOES-12 (East) satellite imagery was not available from 04/1645z and
through the present time. Due to this outage overall fire and smoke
detection was hindered and obscured.

Fires with associated smoke seen in GOES-11, AVHRR and MODIS TERRA
satellite imagery.

Florida:
A fire in Taylor county is producing moderately dense smoke moving south
over the Gulf of Mexico. Another fire is burning in Okaloosa county
emitting light smoke to the south and into the Gulf of Mexico.

Arkansas:
A fire burning in Ouachita county is emitting light smoke to the east NE,
but staying within county borders. In Nevada county a fire is producing
light smoke moving east NE into Dallas and Clark counties.

Mississippi:
In Marion county a small fire is emitting light smoke to the east and
is reaching Lamar and Forest counties.

Texas:
In Refugio county a fire is emitting light smoke to the southeast reaching
the Gulf of Mexico. To the west in Bee county a fire is producing light
smoke southeast into Refugio county.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
