DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z December 05, 2007

GOES-12 (East) satellite imagery was not available from 04/1645z
and through the present time. Later today GOES-10 will be filling in
for GOES-12. Due to this outage overall fire and smoke detection was
hindered and obscured.

No significant areas of smoke can be seen in morning satellite imagery.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
