DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 300Z December 23, 2007

Texas: In northeast Gillespie County, a light smoke plume, extending
50 miles from the source, is moving southeast into Blanco and Hays
Counties. In addition, blowing dust is observed by the analyst happening
over west Texas, and is moving south from Midland into the Big Bend and
Hill Country of west Texas.

and extends 30 miles from the source. Also, a light plume in extreme
southeast Yuma County in Arizona is moving south into northern Mexico,
into the Baja of California, and extends roughly 40 miles from the source.

Hawaii: Burning vegetation from lava flows from Kilauea is producing
a light smoke plume moving west and extends about 80 miles from the
source to near South Point. However, smoke may be mixed with the vog
that extends a couple hundred miles west of South Point.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
