DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2232Z January 19, 2008

Arkansas:
A very small fire in north central Scott county has a very faint smoke
plume that moves nearly due SE and extends about 50km and is about
7km wide.

Oklahoma:
A very small fire in south central Le Flore county has a very faint
smoke plume that extends about 40km S and is about 7km wide

NE Texas:
A very small fire in SE Wood county has produced a very faint plume of
smoke that extends about 40km to southern Smith county, TX.  This plume
is also about 7km wide.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
